Great Replacement Comparison
Date:4 January 2011
Pros: Performance, Quality, Easy to Use, Design, cash price deal
The Throw Away World (TAW), can’t get it apart to fix it and it is cheaper to replace than repair. So again our Mum lends us her old Hover iron, which still runs perfectly day after day for the last 55 years while we join the queues in the TAW to purchase a replacement.
Our review of this iron is compared to a similar price and spec four year old replaced iron.
It looks great, quality finish, design and feel (designed in Holland & made in Indonesia) with two years warranty and a comprehensive well-written user manual.
This iron is heavy, full of water 2.13Kg, .605Kg more than our old iron 1.525Kg and it is 35mm higher. So our old iron required less physical effort to move around without a SteamGlide soleplate but the Phillips does a much better job due to a more accurate, hotter, heat control. It also pushes out double the steam (170g/m to 85g/m).
The water tank is huge (350ml), very easy to fill with “tap water” and the steam lasts for ages (double the old the iron).
Note that soleplate has a very thin pointy end on it, which can catch in the seams, but it does let you get into some tight places.
After we got used to the extra weight, we noted that a lot less back and fro repetitive movements were required to get an impressive result. We also realized that we didn’t have to push down on the iron to make it work like the old one (note the Hoover is a heavy too). Yes this Azur iron worked extremely well.
The thermostat is difficult to read what is set to, due to the line up mark being under the bottom of the handle and obscured by your fingers when setting it (a redesign could move it by 180 degrees).
Most irons take a tumble or two, to the floor in their lifetime and this one could be easy to catch due to its extra height but it is very stable on a well-balanced bottom heavy base.
The iron made quick work of all our ironing, delicates, linen, cotton and jeans and it did glide well over finer lace and materials.
We are both very happy with our purchase and will gladly adjust to this iron’s near perfection performance.

Have Jeans? Will Iron!
Date:14 November 2009
Pros: Value for Money, Easy to Use, Quality
After finding that the quality of my favourite brand of iron had deteriorated I was forced to try another brand and decided to give this good-looking, rather expensive, heavy Philips one a go. What a great decision! Yes, it feels heavy at first but it irons like a dream, especially weighty items like jeans and linen tablecloths. The iconic steam is particularly useful to penetrate these heavier materials.
Being heavier also has the advantage that it sits solidly on the ironing board and does not have the tendency to tip over. The auto-off feature gives peace of mind as it works whether the iron is horizontal or vertical.
It took me a little while to avoid using the iconic steam button unintentionally but now I have corrected my grip and can iron for hours without a problem. Its larger tank means I have to fill it less often and it has an anti-calc system which would be especially useful if tap water were used. I always use distilled water in my irons but I still use this system to clean the tank.
And the cost? Not an issue because it is good value for money. I will never gripe if I have had to pay more and the product turns out to be as good as this one.

Best Iron I Have Had
Date:23 September 2009
Pros: Design, Value for Money, Easy to Use, Quiet
I was worried that this iron would be too heavy for me but I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to use. I have found that ironing cotton business shirts with this iron has taken less time and done a much better job than my old iron! The Ionic Deep Steam function on this iron seems to "magically" remove stubborn creases that I had to iron over and over again, with my old iron. The iron has an extra large water tank so you can iron quite a few garments before having to refill it.I bought this while Philips had a Special Cash Back Offer on, so this made the iron even more attractive to purchase. It also has a 2 year warranty whereas some other brands only offer 1 year.
